Strike Action Announced

We’ve been made aware that the Rail and Maritime Transport union (RMT) have announced strike actions on the week leading up to Furcation 2022 this year. We are constantly keeping an eye on the situation, as we know that this is going to cause some of you some worry. For this reason, we’ve got some common questions and answers you’re probably asking! If your question is not answered here, let us know, and we’ll get the answers for you.

What are the dates that the strike action is going on?

Strike days are on:

  • Saturday 5th November (Whole railway network)
  • Monday 7th November (Whole railway network)
  • Wednesday 9th November (Whole railway network)
  • Thursday 10th November (London Underground and Overground only)
How is this going to affect me coming by train?

If you are meeting people before you arrive at Furcation, the above may severely impact you, so ensure that you plan thoroughly.

For those of you arriving on Thursday (early arrival), then trains are going to start later than usual, and some companies will have a reduced timetable due to this. Great Western Railway (who run the trains to Weston-Super-Mare/Highbridge and Burnham) is one of these companies. As the situation is dynamic, we are unsure of how people will be affected at the moment, but we will make sure we keep everybody up to date. We’ll be keeping an eye on the following website, and we advise everybody coming by train does the same.

For those arriving on Friday, trains should be running as normal, but trains may be busier than usual, due to the catch-up.

What do you advise we do if we are coming on the early arrival day?

Firstly, avoid travelling first thing in the morning, as some trains may be running, but not all. It’s not fun to be stuck halfway through your journey! Secondly, plan around your regular plan. Ticket restrictions will still be in place during this, so don’t get caught out! Last of all, don’t panic if you are going to arrive late!

If you arrive after our registration time on Thursday, you can still register on Friday. If nobody in your group will be arriving before 11pm, please call the park on 01278 751271 and inform them you will be too late to sign in at reception. They will then hand your key to our Welfare team, and let you know where you can pick it up on-site.

General Guidance

The nearest station is Highbridge & Burnham, however if you're coming by public transport, we recommend instead using Weston-super-Mare Station, as this has direct bus links via the number 20 towards Burnham-on-Sea, then riding to Hurn Lane bus stop. It's about 40 minutes. You'll likely need to change at Bristol Temple Meads or Parkway if you're coming from further afield.

The First Website has timetables for the number 20 service. Buses are approximately every half-hour.

We also have a route map available to help you visualise your journey.

Road

The M5 motorway runs nearby, with junction 22 providing access to the town and Brean. Come off of the M5 at Junction 22 and follow the B3140 (this will be named Love Lane, Berrow Road and Barton Road). You will then deviate left onto Parsonage Road, which then links to Coast Road. Keep following this road and Sandy Glade will be on your right. It is quite easy to miss, so you will need to be on the lookout!

For those of you that have one of those new fangled Sat-Navs, the post code is TA8 2QT, or if you have a smartphone, you can use Google Maps to locate the site.

Air

If you're flying in, Bristol Airport is the closest. We recommend using the First A3 Airport Flyer Bus Service to Weston-super-Mare which serves Worle, Congresbury, Cleeve and Bristol Airport hourly.

Buses are fitted with on-board WiFi, allowing you to sit back, surf the web and start your holiday early.

Once in Weston-super-Mare transfer to the number 20 bus service heading towards Burnham-on-sea disembarking at Hurn Lane bus stop. It takes approximately 40minutes. See details above for bus directions for further assistance.
